Most people are familiar with the Canon in D by Johann Pachelbel and of course the Wedding March by Felix Mendelssohn and the Bridal Chorus by Wagner. Over the years of playing over 2000 weddings we have discovered some hidden gems in both classical and popular music. Here are some of my favorite pieces the are uncommon and yet very beautiful for processionals and other musical moments in wedding ceremonies. 1. Rienzi Overture by Wagner This piece was performed by a live string quartet at my son’s wedding. The bride requested this for her walk down the aisle. I wrote the arrangement for the quartet and officiated the ceremony as well. It starts with just a few notes which is ideal for that magic moment of anticipation when the the crowd stands, the doors open and the bride enters.
2. Anne of Green Gables Theme. This beautiful string quartet arrangment we requested for a wedding at the beautiful Garden of the Gods Club in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
3. It's About Time Theme
This movie theme is absolutely gorgeous. I wrote a strings version of this and it has since been requested by several brides.
4. Theme from Jurassic Park
You don't have to be a paleanotologist to appreciate the beauty of this theme by John Williams. We have recieved several requests for this song for the entrance of the bridal party and the bride. Here is a string quartet version.
5. Married Life from "Up"
This is another movie theme that we are currently getting requests for. It is a fun movie and a great piece for weddings. This is the Dolce String Quartet from Australia.
There are literally thousands of great pieces of music adn the task of choosing can be taunting.
